The Vision

Sometimes a customer comes along with a vision that puts our promise to “build your dream” to the test. With architect Dave Sanders and his graduate architect son Neil driving the design for their gorgeous Colorado mountain barn home, Sand Creek came up with innovative solutions to meet their design requests and executed a beautiful vision in a beautiful location.
Dave Sanders had been living in St. Louis and spending his time in a condominium above the grocery store in Frasier, Colorado when he decided the life he had dreamed of in Colorado just didn’t feel as authentic as he’d hoped. He looked for land in 1986 and found the perfect mountain piece with an incredible view of the valley. After purchasing the land, they built a small rustic cabin to spend their time living the mountain life. Over 20 years later, Dave developed a different vision of life in the mountains.

Deciding to move to Colorado permanently, Dave set upon designing the perfect mountain home. He was looking for something rustic and yet upscale, the perfect balance of feeling like the architecture of his home was authentic to the area and at the same time an expression of his own professional expertise and personal vision. When he found Sand Creek Post & Beam, he saw an opportunity.

Dave is someone who knows what they want and won’t settle for anything but the best. Sand Creek met that challenge by working side-by-side with Dave in integrating his vision for the barn home with the building system that makes Sand Creek so unique. By bringing two separate structures together to build what Sand Creek calls a “combination barn”, Dave didn’t have to settle for anything less than a stunning exterior and an interior post and beam frame that is both inspiring and beautiful to look at, and while also executing the floor plan and use of space he had envisioned.

Dave and his son Neil took years completing the home themselves. While they had thought they’d bring local contractors on to do much of the work, they continued to take pride in what they were doing with their own hands and completed almost everything together. To this day each detail of the home is a point of pride for the father and son duo. With the help of the Sand Creek construction manager’s expert advice and guidance, these DIYers built their dream on the perfect property, and to this day enjoy the authentic mountain life in Colorado they’ve always dreamed of!
