In the North Georgia Mountains

Piney Meadow is a private retreat for family and friends to gather, decompress, and connect with nature in meaningful ways. To reflect this mission through the design, the architect/owner wanted to capture the comfort and feel of heavy timber design elements, without the look of a traditional cabin. To fulfill this vision, Timberlyne’s Rushmore package was the perfect canvas to work with.

The ability to see the outdoors from any point in the home was a primary design focus. The use of random punched windows in the master suite and entry foyer, along with clerestory glass in the guest bedrooms and baths provide stunning treetop and sky views. These scattered openings offer “pictures of nature” on the walls, which can be enjoyed from across the home.

Another design initiative was to maximize the area available for entertaining. The integrated kitchen blends seamlessly in the heart of the home, while the large, subtle pantry eliminates any overhead cabinetry. Large windows that compliment the fireplace, provide visual identity for the dining, sitting and media areas, while keeping the gathering space open and bright.

The visual aesthetic throughout the home was inspired by the Arts & Craft Movement. Interior trim detailing, bespoke tiling, muted color palette, and tall doorways are punctuated by whitewashed beams, columns and ceilings which come together harmoniously to provide a definitive relaxing metropolitan look and feel.
